Description
EGS is seeking Fire Protection Engineers and Designers to support our DOE customer at Los Alamos National Laboratory. These positions are long term ( 3-5 year) contract opportunities with top competitive rates, great benefits and full Government Per Diem.
Fire Protection Engineers ( 5 -15+ years ) will have nuclear experience and experience with change control, design control with a NICET, level 2 or higher certification.
Position uses AutoCAD equipment and software to produce routine layouts, detail drawings, as-builts, sketches and diagrams for fire alarm and safety systems. Details to include wiring and device layout, all views, dimensions and equipment take-offs and/or cut-sheets necessary for submittal approval process by AHJ.Support construction and commissioning of new facility projects, significant facility modifications, and new or modified programmatic and research activities for fire protection and life safety compliance to requirements and project specs.Review, provide feedback and approve contract documents consisting of drawings and specifications which define changes to buildings and infrastructure.Expert knowledge of Engineering principles and procedures, design guides, codes, and administrative practices. Including IBC, IFC, NFPA 101, NFPA standards and codes, FM global standards and others as applicable.Expert knowledge of DOE, DOE-O-420.1C, DOE-STD-1066, LANL Engineering Standards Manual and others as applicable.Expert knowledge of engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of technology aided engineering tools to conventional and non-conventional facility and operations-based engineering problems in order to properly evaluate proposed designs and related submittals.Perform work in accordance with the Conduct of Engineering (CoE) and applicable Federal, State, and Laboratory codes and standards.Compare equipment selections for compliance with the project specification and other requirements.Expert knowledge of engineering maintenance techniques and construction methodologies in order to ensure proposed designs and commissioning activities meet the design specification and LANL requirements.Expert knowledge of project and process engineering practices.
Fire Protection Designers ( 5-15+ years ) will have a Construction trades background, Designer experience and a Solid understanding of commercial construction with fire protection design expectations and a NICET, level 2 or higher certification.

Works closely with internal customers and AHJ to produce a final product that is accurate and reduces change orders.
Design control, change control , documents, and supports fire protection systems, such as sprinklers and alarms, to ensure life and property safety in buildings by creating detailed drawings using CAD software, performing hydraulic calculations, and ensuring compliance with fire codes and standards
We are also seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join our team at a DOE facility located in Carlsbad, NM. Positions come with top pay plus full government Per Diem. Must be a US Citizen. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting Fire Hazard Analysis (FHAs), supporting Documented Safety Analysis / Technical Safety Requirements (DSA/TSR) revisions, conducting and reviewing engineering calculations, reviewing Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), and providing expert fire protection guidance and support to site projects.
