Candidates who have completed a Michigan police academy and have less than 1 year of experience will start at $61,611.14. Candidates with prior full-time experience will be hired at an advanced pay step based on prior years of experience, up to Step F. Step F of the current Portage Police Officers’ Association collective bargaining agreement is currently paying $43.76. per hour/$91,014.69 annually. Excellent benefits. Out-of-state officers or those who are separated from a police department for more than a year are subject to re-licensure requirements as defined by MCOLES and the Recognition of Prior Training & Education program. **ALL police officers are now eligible to receive a 5% ANNUAL ATTENDANCE BONUS! $15,000 Sign-on bonus for New Lateral Transfers!
Requirements
All entry-level candidates must be at least 21 years old, a U.S. citizen, possess an Associate’s degree, have completed a Michigan police academy and have no felony convictions, including expunged convictions. Successful candidates must possess a valid Michigan driver's license upon hire. Successful candidates must complete all required tests and evaluations including a pre-offer evaluation, oral board interview, background investigation, and if offered a position, a post-offer physical and psychological evaluation.
