Description

The Chicago-Kent College of Law Library is looking for a service-oriented professional to work with our very productive law faculty as the Faculty Services Librarian. The Faculty Services Librarian will maintain and promote faculty scholarship by managing the collection, maintenance, and marketing of faculty scholarship in Scholarly Commons, Selected Works, SSRN, and other platforms. This position may also assist faculty in adopting digital course materials and best practices for organizing course websites. The Faculty Services Librarian provides research assistance and instruction that serves faculty, students, and the educational programs of the Law School. This position also supervises a faculty support team who handles various clerical and technical tasks, assisting faculty with their teaching, scholarship, administrative, and professional service responsibilities. 

The Chicago-Kent College of Law Library is located in the West Loop near downtown Chicago, one of the largest legal markets in the country. The Law Library advances the academic and scholarly success of students and faculty by providing future-focused training and professional research assistance to a diverse community. The Law Library fosters respect for all community members and ideas; supports the learning experience with strategies, services, and space; connects community members to resources in the library, the law school, and beyond; and equips students with practice-ready, strategic skills for their careers.

Requirements

Required Education & Experience

MLS degree from an ALA-accredited graduate program and a JD from an ABA-accredited law school. 1-2 years of academic law library experience.

Knowledge & Skills

Required
- Knowledge of digital scholarship platforms, such as bepress, and current trends impacting scholarship in the legal community.
- Experience with online faculty author profiles, SSRN, and institutional repositories.
- Knowledge of and proficiency with a wide range of legal information sources and research methods.
- Demonstrated teaching and presentation skills in an educational environment.
- Experience using library-relevant technology applications, including LibGuides.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Experience successfully promoting faculty content and services.
- Ability to conceptualize, implement, and coordinate library programs independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, changing environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to work flexibly with faculty, students, staff, and a diverse research community.
- A strong work ethic and commitment to excellent service.
- Creativity and experience proposing new or improved projects and workflows.

Preferred
- Knowledge of copyright and authors’ rights.
- Experience effectively managing complex projects.
- Supervisory experience.

Key Responsibilities
- Manages all aspects of the Scholarly Commons, the law school’s digital institutional repository (IR), including creating metadata, conducting quality control, and establishing appropriate metrics for the faculty profiles and the IR. Develops a collaborative working relationship with the Illinois Tech communications department to promote and maintain a record of faculty scholarship and public service activities. Monitors advances in scholarly communication strategies, open access, institutional repositories, digitization, scholarship metrics, and copyright law. Develops new scholarship services and expands existing ones.
- Provide legal and interdisciplinary research support to faculty and students through in-person, email, or remote research consultations.
- Work with law faculty by providing in-class guest instruction by teaching legal research skills related to the course. Assist faculty in adopting digital course materials and organizing course websites. Creates and updates electronic Research Guides, tutorials, and instructional videos to support the law school curriculum.
- Supervise the day-to-day work of the faculty support team assisting faculty in their teaching, scholarship, administrative, and professional service responsibilities.
- Maintain current awareness of issues and trends related to legal research and instruction by participating in professional development activities. Participates in special events to promote the law library and its services and participates in the life of the law school by attending events and volunteering for projects. Other duties as assigned.
