Nuclear Medicine Technologist (Nuclear Medicine) Johnson City, New York
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for the ordering, preparation, and administration of radiopharmaceutical materials to patients. This role supports visualization of major organ systems using gamma equipment and/or thyroid uptake and probe while applying radiation physics and safety knowledge. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.
Job Details
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM4:30 PM, 40 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Associates degree in applied science in Nuclear Medicine; New York State Radiologic Technologist license in Nuclear Medicine; Nuclear Medicine Certification: NMTCB or ARRT(N); Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; ability to demonstrate attention to detail, collaboration, continuous learning, initiative, judgement/critical thinking, problem solving, quality, reliability, and technical expertise
- Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Medicine
- Responsibilities:
- Participates in Radiology Management Systems functions as they relate to patient procedures
- Demonstrates radiation safety practices for patients and co-workers
- Maintains familiarity with required documentation necessary for licensing agencies
- Provides patient education as needed
- Handles and disposes of radioactive waste material appropriately
- Communicates effectively with referring physicians, radiologists, and other department customers to support nuclear medicine procedures
- Performs diagnostic imaging procedures including SPECT and SPECT/CT
- Prepares image data for interpretation, including documentation and labeling, image data processing and formatting, data calculations, and SPECT reconstruction
- Practices within Federal and State guideline
- Orders, receives, documents, stores, and returns radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with NY DOH requirements
- Prepares, documents, dispenses, and administers radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with NY DOH requirements
- Transfers and retrieves image data to PACS and documents studies in EPIC
- Performs and documents daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly quality control procedures on equipment in accordance with ACR and reports deviations to appropriate personnel
- Starts intravenous catheter line and injects radioisotopes proficiently, then removes IVs
- Adheres to accepted clinical principles, methods, and procedures while performing nuclear medicine procedures
- Communicates staff awareness and compliance with hospital safety, infection control policies, fire and disaster plans, including body mechanics education as it applies to the work setting
- Maintains confidentiality of patients and hospital information
- Complies with hospital policies and procedures pertaining to incident reporting
- Performs other duties as required and assigned
