Surgical Technician/Operating Room Technician (Clovis, New Mexico)
The organization is seeking a Surgical Technician/Operating Room Technician to support surgeons during surgical procedures in the Operating Room. This role assists with preparing and providing instruments and equipment to help facilitate a safe, effective, and orderly surgical environment. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day.
Job Details
- Schedule: Rotating shifts, 8 shift hours, minimum 40 hours per week; call during weeknights, weekends, and holidaysup to 6 call shifts per month.
- Required Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; completion of a Surgical Technician training program (requirement verified at interview) or graduation from an accredited school OR Certified Surgical Technician credential through National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) (certification requirements must be met as applicable). Current experience: two (2) years in a large Operating Room; proficiency in SURGICAL ASSISTANCE, ASEPTIC TECHNIQUE, INSTRUMENT HANDLING, PATIENT POSITIONING, and PATIENT MONITORING; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required through American Heart Association (AHA), American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross.
- Preferred Qualifications: Ortho, Ear Nose Throat (ENT), and/or vascular experience; Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience with Epic (Epic) preferred (training available on-site).
- Additional Information: Provides scrub functions and supports pre-operative care. Performs instrument counts prior to each procedure and maintains accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments during procedures. Prepares and maintains the sterile field, secures and prepares required supplies and instruments, prepares patient skin, and positions/repositions the patient during surgery. Helps monitor patients during surgery and assists with specimen handling and routing. Maintains current knowledge of anatomy/physiology and intraoperative medications, participates in seminars/workshops/publications to stay current, and follows all federal, state, and departmental safety procedures. Floating between departments and or local locations within 20 miles is required.
