Job Summary: Sterile Processing Tech (SPT) Nights (Portland, OR)
The Sterile Processing Tech supports sterile processing activities within a short term acute care setting, assisting with the preparation, cleaning, sterilization, and organization of surgical sets and related instruments. This role operates on block scheduling that includes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Candidates are required to bring their license on the first day of employment.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Nights block schedule includes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; 8 shift hours; minimum 40 hours per week
- Required Qualifications:
- Certifications: Certification Requirements (CBSPD); Certification Requirements (IAHCSMM/HSPA)
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous Charge experience (preferred)
- Charting system experience (preferred), with Epic (preferred)
- Trauma level I experience (preferred)
- Robotics experience (knowledge of SPM and robotics preferred)
- Responsibilities:
- Assemble sets and trays, including organizing trays and placing instruments on trays
- Perform manual cleaning and use cleaning equipment (including crash carts, IV pumps, and PCA pumps)
- Prepare instruments for sterilization using proper labeling and wrapping materials
- Execute sterilization wrapping procedures and sterilization processes, including steam sterilization testing/monitoring and immediate-use steam sterilization (IUSS)
- Perform and document testing/monitoring activities using biological indicators and chemical indicators
- Support high-level disinfection (HLD) and sterilizer/washer processes
- Utilize ultrasonic cleaner and support equipment documentation tasks
- Handle loaner consignment trays, implants, preference cards, and specialty instruments (including endoscopy, laparoscopic items, and fiber optics)
- Support specialty workflows as applicable, including surgical specialties such as Ear/Nose/Throat, OB/GYN, orthopedics, plastics, urology, ophthalmology, podiatry, transplant, vascular, dental, and trauma-related processing
- Support robotics-related processing for surgical systems including Da Vinci Si, Da Vinci SP, and Da Vinci Xi
- Participate in sterile processing using Sterile Processing Microsystem (SPM) as required
- Additional Information:
- Interdisciplinary support is available
- Willingness to work required weekend coverage as scheduled
- Must commit to working 3 of the 5 holidays: Thanksgiving, Xmas Eve, Xmas Day, NYE, NYD
- Requests for time off and specific scheduling must be submitted up-front during the submission process; post-submittal/offer requests may not be considered
- Candidate is expected to be able to float within the hospital or to an affiliate hospital nearby, as needed
- Facility requires submission responses confirming prior experience at a Providence facility (permanent, travel, or registry/per-diem) if applicable
- Vehicle required for the assignment
- No call-in; facility contacts should not be reached out to directly unless an interview has been communicated as agreed upon by the appropriate party
- Modules are non-billable; average 16 hours spent (over 20 hours requires PM approval); completed pre-start and annually; time spent is self-reported and completion is recorded in Workramp transcripts
